Last week in church we announced an upcoming “back to school” mission project, in which we will help out needy kindergartners and their families with school supplies. For some of our teachers, that announcement was too soon. They groaned to think about jumping back into the busyness of a school year. But don’t worry! There’s still lots of summer left!
I love the ebb and flow of the seasons. I love that we have a time during the year when people are encouraged to take a break, go on vacation, and generally NOT be productive.
This year when you are lounging on the beach or enjoying time away with your family, be sure to remember that your vacation is brought to you to by none other than Genesis 1. A lot of people don’t realize what an impact the Biblical idea of Sabbath has had on the world. Left to our own devices, we would work (and make others work!) 24/7 – 365 days a year.
The Bible tells us that even God took a break – and so should we. Life is about more than work and productivity. So, this summer enjoy your re-creation and remember “from whom all blessings flow!”
