Joy-Full Connections

This past weekend, I pointed out how the Gospels go to great lengths to show that the birth of Jesus was not an isolated event, but instead was part of a rich web of relationships extending through time and space.

The great theologian and Catholic monk, Thomas Merton, once wrote: “Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with another.”

Just as Jesus was deeply connected to the people in his life, God has also placed us in a world where loving and life-giving connections are possible – but not always inevitable. In other words, it’s up to us to make the most of the relationships God has given us.

Over the past few days, I’ve preached at four worship services, attended our amazing children’s Christmas Program (“Mission Possible”) and hosted our annual staff Christmas party. If real wealth is measured by the joy of our connections with one another, then of all people I may be richest of all. That’s why I don’t want to miss the opportunity to say, once again, how much I love you and how blessed I am to serve alongside you in the Body of Christ.
