Once again, Easter Sunday has come and gone. Today, our staff will review our services and special events and make notes for next year. One reason for celebration is that we had 773 people attend our Easter services – up 23 from 2016. The question for us now is, “What’s next?”
Here’s a hint from the story itself… when the women went to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body for burial, the angel said to them, “Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” Have you ever wondered why Jesus would pick Galilee? Galilee wasn’t important for any other reason than it was the place where Jesus and the disciples had grown up. It was home!
That seems to be one of the clearest messages of the resurrection – that the Risen Christ comes to meet us in the places where we really live. Therefore, Easter is not about endings; it’s about possibilities. It’s about discovering the Risen Lord in places we might never think to look – even our own lives. Truly, Jesus goes before us to places like Keokuk, Hamilton, and Warsaw – and it’s there he will be revealed. For Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
