With Palm Sunday just days away, I thought I’d share with you again a parable about the donkey who carried Jesus into Jerusalem so long ago. The story goes that on the day after Jesus’ triumphal entry, the donkey awakened, still excited about the day before. He went into town and found some people near a well. He thought, “I’ll show myself to them.” But they didn’t notice. They went right on drawing their water. “Throw your garments down!” he said crossly. “Don’t you know who I am?” But they just laughed. “Miserable heathens!” he muttered. “I’ll just go to the market where the good people are.” But the same thing happened there. Hurt and confused, the donkey returned home to his mother. “Foolish child,” she said gently. “Don’t you realize that without Jesus you are just an ordinary donkey?”
Without Jesus, we are all just “ordinary donkeys.” And sometimes we can be more like “that-other-name-for-donkeys…”
Palm Sunday begins the events of Holy Week that culminate with the great celebration of resurrection on Easter. So, join us for worship this weekend as we gather to celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry and scatter to carry the message of Jesus to the world!
